Wolds Way Cycle Trip

Overview
This is a lovely 146 mile route which takes you round the varying countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds. Not the most visited area of the country but this makes it more special as you can travel for miles without seeing a soul, or even better a car.

The route is 99% on lanes weaving through the fields and Wolds, with very few big hills. The route has plenty of variaty, however because it is still new, the accommodation options are little limited in some places.

For those like us who would prefer basic accommodation to keep costs down, you may struggle. B&B's are plentiful, particularly along the coast, but they are not always that cheap. Cheap accommodation around Beverley was the biggest struggle. The YHA was £84 for two a night, which is very expensive, add in membership and food and you'll be broke. YHA need to be more competitive and have better flexibility in pricing. Elsewhere on the route you will see a large number of campsites, but don't get excited. Unless you a Caravan and Camping Club member and towing then you'll be struggling to find a space for a tent. That aside, it won't spoil your trip when you try some of the great places to eat along the journey, see the lovely views and stay at the nice sensibibly priced accommodation.

We started and finished in Walkington, just outside Beverley, we were on the tandem so that ment we had to get there by car. We did try renting a car parking space through parkatmyhouse.com but the only signed up user in Beverley backed out last minute. I would recommend more residents of Beverley sign up to this as its a good idea for both parties. We covered the route in 5 days, however it would be perfectly comfortable to do this in 3 for most people. Our nights stops were Pocklington, Sledmere, Flamborough and Hutton-On-Cranwick.
